The only place in the world with exactly this name, thought to derive from one of two English towns: Tynemouth in Northumberland or Teignmouth in Devonshire, both of which are pronounced “Tinmuth” as is this Vermont town
Tinmouth’s brief period of fame came when it was designated County Seat in 1781, until Rutland took over the job in 1784.
