Real photograph postcardview of a boulder in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, postmarked 1907 (Lunenburg, Mass.).The view, entitled Bowlder on Rollstone Hill, Fitchburg, Mass., shows a largeboulder set on the top of a hill with an iron band wrapped around it and pilesof smaller stones propping it up. This is the well known Rollstone Boulder, nowlocated in a traffic circle in downtown Fitchburg. It’s history is detailed ina Wikipedia entry and in other places on the internet. The sender, who signedthe card simply F.W., notes at bottom that he was driving in Lunenburg and sawa boulder as large as this one (but not as historic). There is a balanced rockor table rock in Lunenburg that is mentioned in a couple of internet posts—I’mnot sure if that what this note refers to. Maybe Jim Moore knows. The word Rollstone is penned in onthe title. This card was sent to Bessie J. Prawley, a nurse who worked inMassachusetts and New Hampshire, while she was at the Waltham Training School. Thepostcard is in good condition with light wear and soiling but no major defects. The photograph exhibits good tonal range (a tad light perhaps) and shows goodor better detail. A nice balancing rock or boulder image!
