GeneralRichard William Penn Curzon-Howe, 3rd Earl Howe,GCVO,CB(14 February 1822 – 25 September 1900), was aBritish peerand professional soldier. Curzon-Howe was the second son ofRichard Curzon-Howe, 1st Earl Howe, and first wife, Lady Harriet Georgiana Brudenell. In 1838, Curzon-Howe joined theBritish Armyand rose through the ranks as aMajor Generalin 1869, aLieutenant Generalin 1877 and aGeneralin 1880. He fought in theKaffir Warand was present at theSiege of Delhi, for which he was appointed aCBin 1858. In 1876, Curzon inherited his elder brother's titles. He was appointed HonoraryColonelof the Prince Albert's OwnLeicestershire YeomanryCavalryin 1876 on the death of his brother (Lt.Col. Commandant PAOLYC [1870-79]George, 2nd Earl Howe), Colonel of the94thand17th Regiment of Footin 1879 and Colonel of the2nd Life Guardsin 1890. In 1897, he was appointed aGCVOfor his services asLord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, a post he held between 1888 and 1900.
