signed 1883 letter - Cook Academy to Samuel Colgate - Cook Sackett Banking House:
$28.00
This is a handwritten letter by Elbert P. Cook, the treasurer of
Cook Academy, a school located in the town of Havana (now
known as Montour Falls), located in Schuyler County, New York.
Cook Academy was founded by Charles Cook in 1858.
The letter is addressed to Samuel Colgate (1822-1897), a prominent
New York businessman and philanthropist. His father was William Colgate,
the founder of what is now the Colgate-Palmolive Company.
Colgate University is named in the family's honor. The letter is in regards to a previous letter by Samuel Colgate, wherein
Colgate expressed a wish to turn over some money to Cook Academy.
However, the letter is written on the stationery of Cook, Sackett & Co.,
a banking house that was owned by Elbert P. Cook and Buel S. Sackett.
The letter is signed by Elbert P. Cook.
The letter has some notations on the back, probably written
by Samuel Colgate (see scans).
The letter is in very good condition, with creases where it has been folded.
PLEASE NOTE- I am also selling another letter from Cook Academy
to Samuel Colgate, which is accompanied by a receipt.
