I believe it is made from pierced/tooled
buffalo hide.

Nice detail, notice the ring and the red nails.

Historically, shadow puppets were used in Thailand to tell stories.

Nang yai is a form of shadow play found in Thailand.
Puppets are made of buffalo hide, while the story is narrated by songs, chants and music.

Nang literally means skin or hide; in common usage, a drama puppet or drama; by extension, motion picture films. "Nang Yai" specifically means "large shadow puppet".

This puppet is in overall very good condition.
One issue, the animal hide has a few curls in it that has hardened into a set.
It can still be easily manipulated and used.

The secondary stick is used to manipulate the extended arm.

Some color fading, but not bad.

Counting the stick approximately
32 1/2" tall
The Puppet itself is around 22 1/2".
