US CIVIL WAR HEAVY CAVALRY SWORD of CONFEDERATE GENERAL Joseph Breward Kershaw :
$12000.00
This is unique Civil War Heavy Cavalrysword. Ifoundthis sword on a big military show. Sword is in good condition. Sword has original scabbard with mark : small horse ( see picture) . Sword length without scabbard is 41,5 inch or 105 cm. Blade length 35.5 inch or 90 cm. Blade has marks: \" F. H.\"- identifies it as being made by FRIEDRICH HORSTER of Solingen.
Sword has metal guard with mark: \" J B Kershaw \".Joseph Breward Kershaw - Confederate General (his photo and biography on one of the picture). I studied the information about this general. Traditionally, the general had a 3-4 sword, a sword for battles and a spare for it, a sword for parades and also swords for a gift to distinguished officers. I showed the sword to three independent experts and received a positive response to the belonging of this sword to the general. After thepictureof the information about the general, I put a 2 pictures of a Confederate sword similar to this with a similar marking on the blade F.H.( see picture). And I found in the catalog \"CIVIL WAR Collectibles , 3-rd Edition , page 354 \",where a similar mark on the sword \"F. HORSTER\" and price level is $6,000 - $8,000( see picture). I hope that this is a real sword signed by the general for two reasons. 1. As can be seen from the photo from the catalog, similar swords were in service with the Confederate Army and the average cost of such a sword is $7000. 2. This sword is a gift from a general to a brave officer. The inscription is made roughly, not aesthetically pleasing, not beautiful. But that was just the way it was at the time. Let\'s imagine a picture: A few minutes ago, the battle ended, the last fires are still burning down, doctors are looking for the wounded, officers are counting the losses. And the bravest officer is brought to the general. And the general can, sitting on the drum with trembling hands with a sharp knife, sign this gift sword as a quick reward to the officer..
This sword is a part of US Civil War history.
I had made pictures that serve as an additional description.
