This is a set of 4 late 1700\'s original State Militia Officer Appointment Letters for officer Shubael Hurd consisting of two from the Revolutionary War and two shortly afterwards. The oldest one is from the State of Vermont in 1781 Signed by Thomas Chittenden, the second is from the State of New Hampshire in 1782 signed by Meshech Weare, the third and fourth are both from the State of New Hampshire in the years 1785 and 1789 and signed by Meshech Weare and John Langdon respectively. The earliest two documents measure about 11.5\"X7.75\" and are complete with some small tears on edges and in the crossing of folded areas along with some staining, discoloration, fading, and general wear. The 1785 document is about 12.5\"X14.5\" and is complete in form but with some separated pieces and with other tears along with stains and discoloration. The last document is about 15\"X11.75 and has some repairs and missing pieces including in the area of John Langdon\'s signature but with his signature being relatively complete and readable. There are stains and discoloration on this document as well with several holes. All documents are appointments for Shubael Hurd.
