This is the same exact knife and sheath pictured in the late Rhett Stidham’s Randall Knife Catalogue, on page 36 upper left. See the photo.
I acquired my first Randall in 1963 and this beautiful knife in 2013 and it has been the premier item in my collection. I am now downsizing my collection and think that is the best and easiest way to advertise to the knife collector community, the presence of this unique prototype knife designed as one of the first collaborations between “Bo” and Gary Randall.
It is a little over 8 in. in length. As noted in the catalogue there is a hairline crack in the rosewood, noted at the time of manufacture. It has been stable and appears no different now, than as pictured in the catalogue in the 1980’s. You need a loop to find it. It has been stored climate controlled, out of its sheath. It is factory fresh with minimal storage wear that I can see. The laminated handle has the sculpted fishtail style, duplicated in the #002 model P-36 shown next to it in the catalogue photo. As far as I know it’s style was not ever produced again.
The blade shows no blemishes or wear, has the factory edge and undamaged point. Of course it has never been sharpened. As you can see in the photo they put a price on it $1750.00 at that time, I have no idea what it may be worth now, but feel that it is reasonable to ask more for it now than I paid then. It has been a pleasure to have it, and now it needs a new home with someone who knows a bit about the Randall story.
Best to all.
