This is a really great piece. It is a presentation piece given to John C. Evans by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association on May 17, 1996.The plaque reads "A remnant of an original white ash tree planted in 1785 on the Bowling Green of George Washington Mount Vernon – Presented to John C. Evans by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association in grateful appreciation for his superior leadership of the Mount Vernon volunteer program – May 17, 1996."There is a lot of information online about John C. Evans. In short: "He was an active member of the G.W. Chapter of S.A.R. and also the National Eagle Scout Assoc. In 1992, he initiated and developed the Mount Vernon's Volunteer Program. In 2012, Jack had accumulated 15,796 hours of volunteer time and in Feb. 18, 2012, Mt. Vernon dedicated the John C. and Paula P.
