This item is original and not a reproduction or copy. It is from a very fresh-to-market discovery in Richmond, Virginia.
A 1766 Halifax County VA School Contract signed by Richard Henry Lee + 17 others - Folded into eights. Signed by 18 individuals. The second to sign is "Richd Lee." I commissioned a professional researcher to research the correct spelling and location of "Hogans Creek" and posed the question if Richard Henry Lee of the northern neck of Virginia owned land in Southside Virginia. Both were established.
Two of the top sections have separated. This document was folded into sixteenths. There is fragility on the horizontal center fold. The fold through "Richd Lee" is intact and OK. There is ink erosion in the "L" in Lee. There is a watermark in the center of the paper--it's large in a double-circle and appears to be a coat of arms.
The first photo is a close up of "Richd Lee" and the last two photos are the professional researcher's discussion of the document to establish Halifax County and "Hogans Creek."Text:

Duncan Twenty Shillingscurrent money of Virginia for each scholar pr. yearas witness our hands this Twenty Second Day ofMay 1766. The school house to stand on HoginsesCreek at Wm. McMillians Cabin above the Milland to be built immediately by us the subscribers and wethe subscribers to find the said Thos.
