Thisfantastic card was issued bythe Walter M. Lowney Company of Montreal,as an insert premium in their brand of Cracker Jack Popcorn in the Mid 1940’s. The Walter M. Lowney Company OF Montreal was undercontact with the Cracker Jack Company of Chicagoin the United States to Manufactureand sell Cracker Jack Popcorn in Canada. The Front of the Card features a veryrealistic portrait of the featuredplane in full flight and usually involvedin battle action. While the backfeatures a very detailed descriptionof the plane including which nations usedit, what engine it had, it’s speeds,heights, flight range and many otherinteresting and in-depth details. Thereare three different types of backs for this series. One type list the number of cards in theseries as being 50, another list the set at 98, while another type list theseries as being complete at 147 cards. Alsoin small print on the back of each card are the words “copyright applied for” and “Litho in Canada”. The series features planes from such nationsas Soviet Russia, The United Statesof America, Great Britain,France and many of the others involved in Word War 2.This card is number 11 in theseries and features a SHORT SUNDERLAND plane,with the 98 Series variation of card back . The card measures 3 1/16 inches by 2 ½ inches by approximately. The card has some areas of discoloration, but is free from major creases. I have scanned the cards fairly large for you to be able tojudge condition for yourself. Thesecards are a fantastic document of World War Two Air Power. With the fantastic graphics and greathistorical detail these cards would be a fantastic addition to any Collector ofAviation or World War Two Memorabilia. THERE IS NO OTHER CARD SERIES THAT COVERSUCH A WIDE GROUP OF PLANES WITH SUCH DETAIL AND ACCURACY. This series goes well beyond what the Heinzand National Chicle Sky Birds, or any ofthe Goudey or Gum Inc Gum card series did.
