1870. Billhead for SILLIMAN & CO. TROY, NY. Very cool Vignette engraving of fish. It is to Adams and Goodrich of Fair Haven, VT (see more below).Paper background color is yellow.
Joseph Adams was a well known community leader in the mid 19th century in the Fair Haven VT area and is now best known for his marble home that still stands today in Fair haven and still carries his name. He had a large marble business and also was a local merchant. Joseph died in 1878. His son, Andrew, continued the merchant business with a "Goodrich" added. Andrew also wrote a couple of late 19th century books. One on the history of Fair Haven and another on the Adam's family. He was also a Vermont State Senator.
I have stumbled into a large quantity of mid-19th century documents related to Joseph Adams and his son Andrew. Most are documents that their business would have stored - receipts and billheads given "to" them, not so much that was originated "from" them. Most all are in very good condition with typical fold creases, but otherwise they have been neatly stored with no mildew smells or damage. I will be listing in separate lots as time permits.
Brown shadows in pics is usually my camera shadow and my poor lighting.
