Original vintage Italian postcard depicting the recumbent marble statue of Saint Sebastian in Rome.
The printed Italian caption reads:
“S. Sebastiano del Giorgetti, eseguito su disegno del Bernini.”
Translation:“Saint Sebastian by Giorgetti, executed from a design by Bernini.”
The sculpture is associated with the Chapel of Saint Sebastian in the Basilica of San Sebastiano fuori le Mura in Rome and is generally identified with the Giorgetti workshop. The postcard carefully credits Giorgetti as the sculptor and Gian Lorenzo Bernini with the design.
