Ringling Bros RBBB Parade Float Pittsfield MA 1949 - Original Photo:
$35.00

An original 5x7" vintage photo from a large archive of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus photos acquired from the estate of a collector. This is a unique antique/vintage silver gelatin photograph -- it is not a modern print. Professionally packaged in a rigid mailer for safe delivery.

Photo Overview

An original circa-3½" square black-and-white snapshot showing an ornate Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus wagon float parked on the grassy backlot at Pittsfield, Massachusetts, 25 June 1949. The single-axle wagon features Rococo scrollwork, a huge oval picture-frame panel filled with floral reliefs, and a classical pedestal in the center, all trimmed in glittering mica. Tents, supply wagons, and a spectator bundled in a coat are visible around the edge of the lot, capturing a candid behind-the-scenes view of America’s most famous traveling circus at mid-century.

The 1949 season introduced a lavish “Spectacle” segment designed by the legendary Art Concello, using hand-built floats like this one that were created in Sarasota, shipped north by train, and paraded into each town to drum up crowds for the evening big-top performance. Few candid photographs of these short-lived wagons survive, making this a desirable addition for circus historians and ephemera collectors—secure it now before it rolls away!

Condition: Good to very good vintage condition. Please see photos for scans of the surface. Photo may have natural curling or other imperfections from age.
