RUTLAND R.R. ADAMS WESTLAKE CO. LANTERN WITH RED ADLAKE KERO / CORNING GLOBE:
$210.00

I have collected Vermont railroad lanterns since the early 60's. I am now 82 years old and have slowly been parting with some of what I call my dear friends. I have owned many of these CVry, Rutland R.R. and other Vermont railroad lanterns over the years. I have owned one other of these RUTHLAND R. R. marked lanterns in the past. This not surprising as the lanterns were not ordered one at a time. I assume the same worker that set the type on this lantern stamped several others. I know they are genuine and as with other ill marked railroad items I have come across attribute it to the illiteracy of most of the railroad workers and other folk of the day. Mismarked items were just too valuable to simply discard. This lantern as the pictures illustrate, is in remarkable condition considering its age. It apparently saw little use. It has the typical CANADA 1921-1923 markings and a service date of 3-37. I became interested in this type of collecting when I discovered my great grandfather, died working as the yard conductor in the Rutland yards, when he fell between two cars as the locomotive jerked suddenly. According to local newspaper accounts, He was literally cut in half and died within minutes.
