Item for sale is a 4.80g fragment of RARE Norton County Aubrite meteorite. This is an opportunity to own a rare meteorite specimen sample large enough that you don\'t need a microscope or loupe to appreciate. Look at the picture, see for yourself that this is a primo aubrite fragment up for sale! Norton county meteorite fell on February 18, 1948 at 4 PM in Kansas, USA. A daytime fireball was seen throughout Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma.There were several masses including the main mass, a huge stone weighing 2,360 pounds which made it the largest stony meteorite known at that time.It is classified as an achondrite, aubrite.Achondrites are among the rarest of stony meteorites.They are representatives of igneous processes on their parent body forming by a melting and recrystallization process.Aubrites are almost pure enstatite, MgSiO3, but unlike enstatite chondrites aubrites have little iron/nickel metal or iron bearing pyroxene.As a result since there is only about 1.6% iron it does not respond to a magnet well.Most of this meteorite is in the University of New Mexico collection, from which this specimen comes.Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale.
