Photo Overview

This original real photo postcard shows famed British music hall star Hetty King in a soft close-up, wearing a wide-brimmed lace-trimmed hat and resting her chin on her hands, looking directly at the camera. The image is personally inscribed in ink “To Miss Flahery” and boldly signed across the lower half “Every good wish Hetty King,” making it a desirable early hand-signed RPPC from her UK stage career, likely dating to the 1910s.

Hetty King (born Winifred Emms, 1883-1972) was one of the best known British male-impersonator entertainers of the Edwardian and interwar music hall and variety stage, renowned for songs such as “All the Boys in Khaki Get the Nice Girls” and for performing for troops in both World Wars. Authentic signed items from her peak years are sought after by collectors of British theatre, LGBTQ+ history and music hall ephemera; secure this scarce early autograph now before it disappears into another collection.

Print analysis: Divided-back postcard layout and matte photographic surface indicate an early 20th century real photo postcard. The image appears continuous tone with no visible halftone dot pattern, confirming RPPC photo postcard rather than printed collotype. Style of card, dress and handwriting point to c1910s, contemporary with Hetty King's Edwardian and WW1-era stage success, making this a Type 1 original RPPC printed within a few years of the photograph being taken.

Condition: Photo is in good to excellent condition. Autograph is hand signed.
