Commemorative Ramseurs Mill Gavel Wooden Circa 1750:
$25.00
A commemorative relic gavel carved from timber sourced directly from the historic Ramsour's Mill property located right here in Lincolnton, North Carolina.
The inscription "Circa 1750" refers to the approximate time period when pioneering settler Derick Ramsour constructed his historic grist mill and milldam along the South Fork Catawba River.
Over the years, timber recovered during excavations or structural updates to the old mill dam sites has been highly prized by local historians. Pieces of this original wood were occasionally salvaged and crafted into presentation gavels to preserve local heritage.
The site is most famously known for the Battle of Ramsour's Mill, fought on June 20, 1780. In this intense, hand-to-hand Revolutionary War clash, a force of about 400 Patriot militia staged a surprise morning assault, successfully routing a much larger force of over 1,000 Loyalist/Tory militia. The Patriot victory completely fractured local Tory support, serving as a direct catalyst for subsequent turning-point victories like the Battle of Kings Mountain.
