Up for sale is a beautiful piece of late 19th-century American craftsmanship: an original Underhill Edge Tool Co. hewing hatchet / broad axe. Manufactured in Nashua, New Hampshire prior to the company’s 1890 merger with the American Axe and Tool Company.Maker Marks & Stamps:- Stamped: "UNDERHILL EDGE TOOL CO." on the head.

This hatchet is in honest, vintage condition with excellent historical character. The metal has been cleared of heavy active rust and shows deep, authentic pitting consistent with its 140+ year age. The maker's stamp is legible, and the crisp geometric factory ridges on the cheek remain sharp and distinct. The wooden handle is an older historical replacement that fits securely and matches the aged patina of the tool beautifully.
