Antique 19th C Walnut Veneer Writing Sewing Work Box Tunbridge Geometric Inlay:
$165.00

Please review ALL pictures for overall condition and size, as this forms the overall condition/description of the item. Wear is consistent with age and use. Measurements are in the photos, approximately 9" X 6" X 4".

Crafted with highly figured, wild-grain walnut panels, this piece features exceptional color, depth, and undisturbed historic patina.

The box is beautifully accented with intricate, multi-wood Tunbridge-style geometric inlay bandings showcasing a rich palette of boxwood, rosewood, and dyed harewood. The lid centers a clean, diamond-shaped satinwood inlay framed by delicate saw-tooth stringing, while a matching satinwood diamond escutcheon surrounds the keyhole. The interior retains its charming, original antique star-pattern paper lining over a straight-grained pine carcass.

Condition Report:

Offered in honest, uncleaned, "as-found" estate condition.

The Wood & Finish: The original finish shows a deep, warm patina with expected surface scuffs, faint scratches, and minor shrinkage lines from age. There is a small, stable veneer chip/lift on the bottom right corner of the front panel.

The Alignment: True to early soft-wood carcass construction, the lid has a slight historic warp, causing the right side to sit slightly prouder (or "smirk" open a bit) compared to the left side when closed.

The Hardware & Interior: The original brass hinges remain secure. The lock is present, though the key is missing. The interior star-pattern paper lining shows expected wear, fading, and historical losses, particularly along the inside of the lid.
