An original black and white portrait photograph of Sir Anthony Eden, signed by him in ink across the upper left and dated 52. Eden is shown in three quarter profile in a dark suit and tie, the moustache and swept back hair unmistakable, lit against a plain studio ground.The date places it precisely. In 1952 Eden was Foreign Secretary in Churchill's second government, a post he had already held twice before, and he would not become Prime Minister until 1955. So this is a signature from the height of his years at the Foreign Office rather than from his short and troubled premiership, and it was signed while he was one of the most recognisable figures in British public life.
The signature is bold and unhurried, written in a flowing hand that runs diagonally down the left of the image where the background is pale enough to take ink cleanly. It reads Anthony Eden with a full stop after it, and the year beneath.
Condition is very good for a photograph of this age. The print has light overall toning, a soft crease running in from the top edge, and lightly bumped corners, all as shown in the scan. The image itself is clean and the signature is strong and completely legible with no fading. Sold as received from an estate, with no certificate of authenticity. Ships flat between rigid boards in a protective sleeve.
