Original 1973 Statesman yearbook from Abraham Lincoln High School in San Diego, California.
This yearbook contains two notable Lincoln High athletes who went on to professional sports:
• Saladin Martin is pictured and identified as “Martin, S.” Martin later played defensive back in the NFL for the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers and was a member of the 1981 49ers Super Bowl XVI championship team.
• Don Whiting appears in the yearbook during the same year he was selected directly out of Lincoln High School by the Baltimore Orioles in the 4th round of the 1973 MLB Draft, 87th overall. He went on to play professional baseball and reached Double-A.
The yearbook is packed with wonderful early-1970s San Diego history, including student portraits, football and other sports, clubs, campus activities, Homecoming, period fashions, advertisements and numerous candid photographs.
CONDITION:
The interior pages are generally very well preserved for their age, with strong photographs and excellent color. The binding has separated from the spine, leaving exposed binding and looseness at the front of the book. This is clearly photographed and should be considered before purchasing.
The covers show age and storage wear. There are also handwritten inscriptions and signatures from students throughout portions of the book, typical of an original student-owned yearbook.
