1954 Vintage Wire Press Photo by ASSOCIATED PRESS.Hooded informers screen suspected Mau Mau.African natives who opposed the Mau Mau terrorists wore hoods and long garments to conceal their identities at the Langata detention center near Nairobi.When this picture was made, the informers were being led from a guard room to scrutinize men suspected of having participated in terrorist raids. Great numbers of the Mau Mau natives had been rounded up at the detention camp.Identities of the informers were kept secret because, in the past, natives who testified against tribesmen had been murdered.Photo is Dated: March 20, 1954.
