Original 1901 New York City engineering and construction correspondence from Purdy & Henderson, Civil Engineers, 78 Fifth Avenue, to civil engineer and city surveyor P. E. Nostrand.
Dated April 8, 1901, the letter concerns Nostrand\'s professional work on a 23rd Street property.
Purdy & Henderson informs Nostrand:
“We have to-day sent your bill for borings and survey of the 23rd Street property to the Fuller Company with our approval.”
The letter documents the practical relationship between civil engineers, surveyors and a major building contractor during an active period of Manhattan development. Nostrand had evidently performed both subsurface boring work and surveying, with Purdy & Henderson reviewing and approving his bill before forwarding it to the Fuller Company.
The reference is believed to be to the George A. Fuller Company, prominent in New York building construction during this period, although the specific 23rd Street building represented by this correspondence has not been positively identified.
