1873 Charlotte, Columbia & Augusta Railroad Company $2"Fare Ticket"obsolete note. Issued During the Panic of 1873, these paper notes were printed by railroads to serve as a ticket scrip. Because hard currency was extremely scarce at the time, local communities and merchants frequently accepted them to circulate like regular paper money. It is explicitly dated October 1st, 1873 and reads "Good for the fare of TWo Passengers twenty miles, Columbia,S.C." Black mark on the bottom right corner. Light fold lines.
