Up for sale is a genuine, highly collectible antique forge-cast "S" carriage buggy wrench stamped "E. SAYERS" on both sides. This historic utility pocket wrench was originally supplied in the accessory tool kits for horse-drawn buggies and wagons manufactured by the legendary Sayers & Scovill Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio (established 1876). Given its classic primitive styling and specific use case, this piece reliably dates to the circa 1885–1905 era, right before the manufacturer pivoted entirely to motorized coaches and hearses.Key Highlights:
  • Crisp, Highly Legible Stamp: The "E. SAYERS" name is deeply and clearly stamped into the iron on both sides. The lettering remains exceptionally sharp and easily readable, which is exactly what specialized transportation and tool historians look for.
  • Specialized Compact Size: Measuring approximately 5" long, this smaller utility variant was designed for precision carriage adjustments, such as canopy hardware, seat braces, or harness shackle mounts. The jaws feature two slightly different sizes.
  • Authentic "As-Found" Condition: This tool is in honest, untouched antique condition. It features a beautiful, dark natural patina with light surface oxidation and expected wear from its working days. The steel structure is solid, the jaws are completely intact, and it has not been aggressively wire-brushed or modified, preserving its maximum collector appeal.
