Wheelock Dresden Germany Cobalt Blue "Dad’s the Engineer, Cedar Point" 5" Vase:
$45.95
This is a very nice piece of history for an early 20th century railroad or Cedar Point collector. It measures 5"h, and features a scene on the front that appears to depict a steam locomotive and an engineer, with the caption “Dad’s the Engineer, Cedar Point”. This suggests it was a souvenir from Cedar Point, which is a well-known amusement park in Ohio.
Its marked “Wheelock Dresden Germany” on the bottom, which indicates it was made in Dresden, Germany, one of the major porcelain production centers of the time.
These types of souvenir ceramics were especially popular before World War I (1895-1915) when trade between Germany and the U.S. was thriving. Since Cedar Point was expanding its amusement offerings during the early 1900s, this vase would have likely been sold as a souvenir at the park’s shops.
