The Whole Story:On May 14, 1967, Allen Ginsberg and the group The Fugs flew to Cleveland from Madison, WI to do a benefit for the legal aid for Cleveland poet d.a.levy and bookseller James Lowell, Both had been arrested 6 months earlier on obscenity charges relating to erotic literature and promotion of drugs (specifically pot).
This poster was obtained after that event in 1967 and kept on display by a member of my family.
Twenty-four years later, Ginsberg came back to Cleveland for a reading and he signed the 1967 poster at that time on October 11, 1991.He inscribed the poster with the following:\"This was a fine benefit for Jim Lowell\'s Asphodel Book Shop, d.a.levy Poetry Reading.\"The now signed poster hung in a frame in the home of a family member and now, 53 years from the original event, it is for sale.More information about the event for which the poster was made can be learned 17”w x 22”H poster has NOT been retouched or refurbished in any way and so it is in its original form. It has yellowed a little over time and there are some minor flaws. One can see where there had been tape over Mr. Ginsberg\'s forehead. There is also some minor staining in the upper right corner. The lower left corner has some minor damage. The back of the poster has marking where tape was used at various points. The paper that the poster was printed on is in good condition. It will be carefully shipped between multiple layers of cardboard to protect it.
