Viscount Hood was a title made for Admiral Samuel Hood, who saw service in the Seven Years war and also the American War of Independence.he led the British to victory in the Battle of Mona Passage in 1782. His brother Alexander Hood also rose to the rank of Admiral and Baron Bridport. The family has served the Navy through many generations.Mount Hood (Oregon), Hood's canal (Washington) are named after him. A 110 foot high monument to Admiral Hood was built near the ancestral home Butleigh Court, originally linked by an avenue of trees.
