This listing is for an old bronze letter opener from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute of Massachusetts. In 1868 it opened its doors as the Worcester County Free Institute of Industrial Science. The school was founded by John Boynton and Ichabod Washburn. I don’t know exactly how old this letter opener is, but it’s hallmarked and stamped “BRONZE” on the back. Nice dark patina but the tip is damaged because it looks like someone tried to use it as a screwdriver on a small, stubborn screw. Measures a little over 5\" in length.
