Maine School for the Feeble Minded - Post Card, c.1910Up for sale is a postcard for the Maine School for the Feeble Minded in West Pownal. It features the Girls Home on the top half of the card and Staples Hall on the lower half. These were just 2 of the buildings that made up the original school, which opened c.1908.
My great grandfather sold his farm in Gray ME to the state as part of the land grab from Gray, New Gloucester and Pownal that made up the Maine institution. The facility had several iterations, finally becoming "Pineland" in the modern era.
A wonderful post card dating to the beginning of the School. It is in good pre-owned condition, but does show age and edge wear. There is a crease on the bottom right corner and a scuffed lower left corner. The back is discolored, but there is no writing on the card. It has not been posted.
