GIACOMO PUCCINI, IMPORTANT LETTER TO HIS WIFE RE. OPERA LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST:
Four pages letter with the original envelope, from Giacomo Puccini to his wife Elvira, from Budapest to Milan, postmarked Feb. 16 1912. Puccini was at the time in Budapest for the premiere, in Hungary, of the opera \'La Fanciulla Del West\'. The letter written at the \'Grand Hotel Hungaria\' is a rare and beautiful intimate portrait of the composer. Puccini writes about: his daily activities, the rehearsing, and a number of people in the music world. Dear Topisia. ( affectionate name Puccini used to call his wife Elvira) this morning Claudio arrives. The premiere has been postponed to Saturday, but probably it will be on Tuesday and I have to stay. It would be a serious matter if I left, there are already rumors that I am not happy. I pass the days pretty well, rehearsals and hotel. Some times I go the the Opera with doctor Zjolai representative of Ricordi (Editor Casa-Ricordi),he is very kind, we go to a big theater, last evening I went to see an Hungarian Operetta in a box with him, his wife, her mariska and her old mother. After we had dinner and at midnight I was in bed. I always get up at 8;00 and at 10:30 I have to be at the theater to be aggravated. Fortunately the whether is good and is not cold. You are writing for Poli (soprano Tina Poli Randaccio ), I will do what you are asking, but it is very expensive and she has no intention to pay me back. Speaking of her, from Florence I received a telegram from Cappone that tells me that Beltrani does not want her because she is too demanding for a good reception. (Tina Poli Randaccio performed in La Fanciulla Del West as Minnie: in Naples, Bari and Lucca but, evidently she did not get the job in Florence). Soon I will go to Calabona (?) to the alpine camp to see Baroni he is very nice. I have written to Torre (Torre del Lago, his home ) I asked to send the gasometer somewhere else, the Cunari can not arrest us, we have the contract (?). Let it go, let\'s finish this too. Anyway we need a pump upstairs. Now I am taking a bath it refreshes me. I am going to the theater, it is already late. I receive so much mail I don\'t know how to respond any more. most of them are requests for autographs and invitations that I do not accept and postpone. has the small carriage arrived? And Minetti, tell me if I have to send him a letter a little assertive.Kiss my dear child and to you much love. Giacomo.
The letter is fresh and in very good condition, the envelope has tears but, is not missing any piece.
