Covered Bridge in Lemington,Vermont
TheColumbia Bridge was built in 1912 to replace an earlier bridge which had beendestroyed by fire the previous year. The current bridge was built by CharlesBabbitt. It was rehabilitated by the state in 1981 at a cost of $143,000. It isthe most northerly Connecticut River bridge connecting Vermont and NewHampshire. The Columbia Bridge is listed on the National Register of HistoricPlaces.

Their photochromes went under thetrade name Lusterchrome. They also produced an early Tichnor Glossseries that was so heavily retouched they floated somewhere between beingartist drawn and being a photograph. The company was sold in 1987 to PaperMajic.
Tichnor Brothers, Inc.(1912-1987)160 N. Washington Street, Boston and Cambridge, MAA majorpublisher and printer of a wide variety of postcards types. Their view-cardswere produced on a national level. They also produced a black white openhalftone series on the hurricane of 1938.

“Chrome”postcards began to dominate the scene soon after the Union Oil Company placedthem in its western service stations in 1939.Mike Roberts pioneered his “WESCO” cards soon after World War II. Three-dimensional postcards also appeared inthis era. By 1960s, the standard size ofcards had grown to 4 x 6 inches.
Photochromesare not real photos but rather, printed cards done by a photochromeprocess. To distinguish a printedpostcard from a real photo postcard, examine it under a magnifying glass andyou will see the dot pattern that is characteristic of printed cards.
