Estate find. Small plum leather wallet style Bible with a flap closing. New Testament bible with Psalms published by Miller and Burlock in Philadelphia. Penned insctiption “A token of friendship from the Rev. John Wray to James Thomas Huston, Dec 21st, 1857. Apparently these bibles were popular for soldiers in the civil war.
The bible has gilt edges which are are faded and accent gilding with the title on the spine.
The Bible also contains a small sage green fabric cross (stiff braid like material). It was found in the Book of Luke. It would be interesting to find out if Mr. Huston was a soldier and who was Rev. Wray.
Exact age of the Bible is unknown.
Size: 4 1/2\" long x 3\" high x 3/4\" thick
Condition: flap has some side splitting, rubbing /scuffing to leather, gilding is faded, some creasing and scattered spotting on some pages.
