Burke & Barnes Salamander Safe Lock & Plaque Pittsburgh Pa 1850s not Wilder:
$425.00
Up for offeris an early American Key Safe Lock removed from a Burke & Barnes safe circa1850s. I believe the company was formed around 1849.
I am sellingthe lock and the safe plaque that came off the same safe. The plaque is potmetal or possibly pewter.
The lockcame off the door in the picture and one of the leading antique lock experts inthe country repaired and made a key for it.
The lock isa Bramah Style lock that was originally developed in England. I had originallythought that the safe maker bought Bramah Locks from England and installed themon some of the Burke & Barnes safes but was told by an expert in Englishlocks that it was an American copy of a Bramah Lock. It does appear to mirrorhow the Bramah lock works.
I was amazedat just pushing in the key and turning 360 degrees, how far the bolt extended.Almost 1 ¼ inches.
Heavy ironbolt is .70 thick and 2.75 wide.
Case is 5.30long x 4.70 wide by 1.70 deep. Lock weighs 6 plus pounds.
The safeplaque and lock have Velcro on it to hold on the safe plaque. It’s justadhesive that will pull right off if you want to mount on a board.
Item will be packed to arrive in advertisedshape.
