A true antique, handmade linen tablecloth with fabulous figural decoration in punchwork or drawn thread lace. It is made in a fine, crisp linen with a wonderful hand and a beautiful drape over the edge of a round table. The figures represent a mythological theme and each of the four in the center represent different gods. The cloth also features winged griffins, angels and cherubs. We believe it is Italian, certainly European, and dates from the early 20th century.
The condition is excellent. Hand laundered and pressed. We note it puckers a bit in the center, though this is easily forgiven for such a fabulous cloth of this age. We found one faint spot (see photos).
