Fields writes to remind a Mr. Smith of a luncheon engagement: “This is only by way of reminder and we hope you will not fail.”One sheet folded in half to 4.25 x 6.75 inches. VG with twin holepunches at the left margin, mailing folds, old adhesive stains andpaper loss to the rear from prior mounting. Authenticity guaranteed.
Annie(Adams) Fields wrote poetry, essays, and memoirs of her literaryacquaintances, and she was also known for her philanthropy and closerelationship with fellow New England author Sarah Orne Jewett. Fieldswas married to prominent publisher James T. Fields, and the couplewere central figures in Boston literary society. After her husbanddied in 1881, Fields and Jewett lived together in a “Bostonmarriage” for nearly three decades until Jewett's death in 1909.
