ACTUAL & AUTHENTIC Brick taken out of the Berlin Wall in 1963 (USAF Certified):
$40000.00
This is a genuine, full-sized brick taken from the Berlin Wall by my father in 1963—just two years after its construction. He retrieved it near Checkpoint Charlie, the infamous border crossing between East and West Berlin, close to the Peter Fechter Memorial (dedicated to the 17-year-old boy shot and killed while attempting to escape to the West).
This brick is certified (see certificate photo) by the Designated Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Air Force, who held notarial and consular powers of the United States. It weighs approximately 8 pounds and measures 9 ½” W x 4 ½” H x 2 ½” D.
After removing the brick, my father turned to leave and was met with applause from a crowd of Germans, including border guards. It’s very likely this was the first and only time someone had taken a piece, not to mention a full-size brick of the Berlin Wall at that time. He captured a few photos of the hole he had left behind (see photo) before returning to his hotel, the Continental Hotel in West Berlin.
At the hotel, he carefully wrapped the brick in a towel, where it has remained untouched for the past 43 years. A month later, he revisited Checkpoint Charlie, only to find that the entire stretch of the wall had been replaced by solid concrete slabs—erasing all traces of his historic act.
His story was later published in multiple newspapers and magazines (see photos), documenting this incredible moment in Cold War history. Unlike the small souvenir fragments that became common after the Wall’s fall in 1989, this is a full-sized, original Berlin Wall brick from 1963—one of the very few, if not the only, known to exist.
Copies of all documentation will accompany the purchase. This is a one-of-a-kind piece of history—a rare artifact from the height of the Cold War.
Includes:
• Original photo slides of the removal
• USAF certification
• Original 1963 newspaper articles
• Brick wrapped in the same Continental Hotel towel since 1963
