Worcester Judge Offers Recommendation For Temperamental And Violent Man:
$135.00

ADIN THAYER was an attorney and a judge from Worcester, MA.

Offering a 2 pp, 5 x 8, ALS, November 14, 1862, to Francis W. Bird.

“I dislike to say anything about Wight for serious reasons & would not to any but you.

“He is a man of great ability, very much above the average and is an earnest and true & true Republican, always straight but he has a violent temper & an entire lack of culture, with hardly sufficient weight of character to obtain the confidence of the community.

“On the whole I think he had perhaps better be appointed for he has much more ability than any one else who will apply and I think his appointment will have a tendency to make him more careful of his temper & his relations to the community. He is one of our best working men & has never done anything really bad that I know of. I must ask you to regard this as strictly private (except to the Gov.) for reasons which I will explain when I see you...Thayer”

The New York Times reported that Thayer committed suicide.

Excellent condition.
