tram-drivers in the country.However the biggest contribution the town made to the war
effortwas the stationing & training of large numbers of
British soldiers in the area, prior to their postings to
Belgium & France
with Weston\'s beaches being used extensively
both for training & live-fire exercises
and the digging of Trenches & Trench construction techniques.Obviouslyfound in the areaby a local after one such firingexercise
in 1915, this locally scavenged piece of shrapnel
was mounted on a small block of wood
and a hand-written legend added:
