June 10, 1941 free franked correspondence from Member of Congress (U.S. House) Edwin Arthur Hall, of Binghamton, NY (moved later in life to NE PA - see below) with both the mailed envelope and the original enclosed signed correspondence. Signature on envelope appears to be printed. Signature on letter may be real, secretarial or auto-pen. Nice condition! Larger 10.25 x 4.5 inch envelope. Letter size is 8 x 10.5. (Sorry for the high shipping - will need to be mailed in an oversized mailer with extra postage - will refund any significant excess).
Edwin Arthur Hall(February 11, 1909 – October 18, 2004) wasaRepublicanmember of theUnited States House ofRepresentativesfromNew York.
Hall was born inBinghamton, New York. He graduated fromCornellUniversityin 1931, and was involved in several Binghamton-areabusinesses, including banking and construction. He was a member of theBinghamtonCityCouncil from 1937 until 1939. Hall was elected to Congress in 1939 to fill thevacancy caused by the death ofBert Lordand served from November 7,1939 until January 3, 1953.
From 1953 to 1954 he was administrative assistant toNew YorkState Assemblymember Richard H. Knauf, and in 1955 and 1956 he wasemployed by theNew York State Civil Service Commission. From 1957 to 1958he was a member of the staff of the New York State Soil Conservation Service.
Hall then relocated toPennsylvaniaand served on theSilverLakeSchool District Board from 1962 to 1965 and theMontrose AreaSchoolDistrict Board from 1965 to 1971.
Hall died inMontrose, Pennsylvaniaon October 18, 2004.At the time of his death, he was the last living congressman to have served inthe 1930s. He was buried at Quaker Lake Cemetery inBrackney.
He was the great-grandson of United States RepresentativeJohnA. Collier.
