Handmade, color holiday card of brown paper, on the outside of which she has drawn a red and green holly branch and a yellow bell. On the inside she has drawn a star, and written in ink (spelling errors in original): "I am send you this wist to wish you a happy New to". Accompanied by manuscript envelope addressed by an adult to Mrs. Grace Tate in Houston, postmarked Tacoma, Washington, April 24, 1950, but with another signature "From Sharon". Also enclosed are a little clump of green Easter basket grass and a tiny 1.5" green-and-white felt bird figure. Sharon Tate (1943-1969), a beauty pageant winner and model, appeared on TV before winning major roles in three films released in 1967: Eye of the Devil, The Fearless Vampire Killers and Valley of the Dolls. While none of these movies were critical successes, some reviewers praised Tate\'s potential for stardom. Tate herself had no illusions about her early acting skills, but was working hard to improve. She earned good reviews working with Dean Martin in The Wrecking Crew (1969). Another film, The Thirteen Chairs, was released posthumously. In 1968, Tate married film director Roman Polanski. On August 8, 1969, Tate - 8½ months pregnant - and four of her friends were brutally murdered at her Benedict Canyon (LA) home by members of Charles Manson\'s cult "family." In the months before Manson and his gang were caught, there were rampant rumors about the motives for the murder, and many Hollywood celebrities installed new security systems in their homes. When Tate\'s convicted assailants were nearing eligibility for parole in 1982, her mother Doris lobbied successfully to amend California\'s legal code to allow victim\'s impact statements, and was the first person to testify under the new law. As a young girl Sharon Tate, an Army brat, moved frequently and had trouble making friends. She developed a shyness which many later mistook for aloofness. This childhood artwork is a revealing and touching glimpse of Tate as a young child. 1 horizontal 1 vertical fold crease. Staple holes at fold creases. Notch at upper center edge.
