The Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant
was being constructed in Suffolk County,
Long Island, New York. The location that
was chosen was on an island with only one
evacuation route for a population of over5,000,000 people.
OnSEPTEMBER 28, 19805,000 demonstrators
turned out to protest the plans by the
LONG ISLAND LIGHTING COMPANY (LILCO).
This pinback button was made for the organizers
of the rally which turned out to be the largest
demonstration in Long Island history. The button
is in mint condition with no damage or discoloration.
