Royal Summons Coronation Queen Elizabeth II 1952 - Bishop of Salisbury:
Rare Summons to attend the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II 2nd June
1952, given to William Louis Anderson Bishop of Salisbury, dated 1st
December 1952.William Louis Anderson (1882 – 1972) was the
Church of England Bishop of Portsmouth and then the Bishop of Salisbury.
He held what is believed to be the unique distinction of being the only
bishop to have served in all three of the armed services. Also
signed by Bernard Marmaduke Fitzalan-Howard, 16th Duke of Norfolk (1908 –
1975), As hereditary Earl Marshal, he organized the coronation of King
George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the
funeral of Winston Churchill, and the investiture of Prince Charles as
Prince of Wales. The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II as monarch
of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Union of
South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon took place on 2 June 1953. Elizabeth
ascended the throne at the age of 25, upon the death of her father, King
George VI, on 6 February 1952, and was proclaimed queen by her various
privy and executive councils shortly afterwards. The coronation took
place more than a year later because of the tradition that holding such a
festival is inappropriate during the period of mourning that follows
the death of a monarch. In the ceremony itself, at Westminster Abbey,
Elizabeth swore an oath to uphold the law and govern the Church of
England. Celebrations took place and a commemorative medal was issued
throughout the Commonwealth realms. It was the first coronation to be
televised in the United Kingdom."Elizabeth RRight Reverend Father in GodWe greet you well.Whereas the second day of June next is appointed for the Solemnity of Our Royal Coronation. These
