RARE Game of Thrones Clan MacMillan Robert the Bruce Carved 18th Century Castle:
$1000.00
I purchased this piece 25 years ago from an antique dealer in Cobourg Ontario Canada. It was said to have originally come from Scotland and brought to Canada during the time when the Highlanders emigrated to North America from 1717 to 1775. Approximately 250,000 to 400,000 Highlanders emigrated and some ended up on the East Coast of Canada and Ontario. This solid wood oak wall panel depicts the Coat of Arms from Clan Macmillan. It contains the holly plant badge and the 2 handed sword or Claymore. Unfortunately the tip of the sword has been damaged but the dowel remains. Only the Chief of Clan Macmillan may wear or display the complete coat of arms and as such this is a one-of-a-kind piece. Clan Macmillan is a Highland Scottish clan originally located in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands during the 12th Century. The clan supported and fought for Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence.
This piece is mounted in a frame which seems to reflect the same era. It is mounted on a contemporary backing of plywood to offer support to the solid hand carved pieces. It was purchased in this manner and I have not altered it. The detail is incredible and the hollowed out knight\'s head is a miracle on it\'s own. There is a dragon with 3 five pointed stars carved on the shield. A banner with the latin words Miseris Succurrere Disco reflects the Motto of Clan Macmillan and translates to \" I learn to care for those in need\".
Good luck and God Bless.
