RANDALL 50thCOMMEMORATIVE set of four knives;
never before offered.
This is a sale.
First three knivesare genuine RANDALL knives;
the smallest (the 4th) is atribute to Bo Randall 50th by Harold Lafler.
Ever since theintroduction of the 50th Anniversary knife,
I had admired thelook, the lines and the handle of the 50th.
It took me 25years before I could justify the purchase of a 50th
model, which isthe one in this ad. I would never dream of carrying
or using a 50th,so some of the “fun” of ownership was missing for me.
When the smalledition of the knife was introduced
as the #27Trailblazer, I wanted one, but with the
50thstyle handle. I thought such a knife would do
true honor tothe original. It would hopefully
also be a knifethat I could carry and use.
I approached theRandall Shop several times,
but was politely refused every time.
I eventuallybought a #27 Trailblazer directly from
famous collectorTOM CLINTON at a BLADE show.
Years later, itwas my good luck to be attending
the BLADE annualknife show in Atlanta. I stopped
by Capt. ChrisStanaback’s booth, where he had a
number of RandallKnives, which are his specialty.
Among those kniveswere several with interesting
handles, whichChris said had been re-handled
by James Behringof Montana.
I went to Jim’sbooth and saw a number of other
re-handled Randallknives, and spoke with Jim’s staff
at some lengthabout custom work. They informed
me they (Behring)had the authorization of Randall
to re-handleknives.
My dream wasbecoming possible........
I took numerousphoto’s of my 50th, and shipped
them to Behring’sshop, along with my #27.
As the re-handlingof my 27 was progressing, I thought
it would beattractive to re-handle a MINIATURE #27,
and have a set ofthree knives, all in different size,
but with the beautiful - and traditional - 50thstyle handles and blades.
The set of threebecame a set of four when I found
the 50thTRIBUTE knife; made by Harold Lafler and
bought it from theNORDIC Knives shop – recently
moved to Boise,Idaho. Mr. Lafler, in his youth,
was a knifemakerat Randall Knives, and was
widely known forhis miniatures.
How delightful tohave all four knives with
a direct RANDALLconnection every step of the way !
The 1stknife is a true Randall 50th Anniversary
Commemorativeknife, numbered 260 of 300,
with asurprisingly well-done scrimshaw of
Mr. Bo Randallhimself on the handle.
It is as new, withunpolished and un-sharpened blade,
just as itleft the Randall shop in 1988.
Accompanied by aspecial zebra skin sheath
made by Randall’sofficial sheath maker,
Greg Gutcher ofTampa.
The 2ndknife is a Randall #27 with original sheath.
This knife wasenhanced with a special handle by James
Behring of Montana, inspired by the 50th Commemorative.
James isauthorized by RANDALL to repair
and re-handle Randall knives.
The 3ndknife is a Randall #27 Miniature with original sheath.
This knife wasenhanced with a special handle by James Behring
of Montana inspiredby the 50th Commemorative.
The 4thknife; the 50th TRIBUTE knife; was made
by Harold Laflerand bought from the NORDIC Knives shop
– recently movedto Boise, Idaho. Mr. Lafler, in his youth, was a
knifemaker atRandall Knives, and was widely known for his miniatures.
(Note on appearance: RANDALL Knives recommends the use ofRENAISSANCE
micro-crystalline wax topreserve their knives. I regularly usethat wax to keep
the original finish on my RANDALL knives.
This wax is VERY sturdy, andhard to remove. Sometimes, Iaccidentally leave a
little behind when I wipe the knives off forphotography. So: If you see a
little “haze” on the knife, itis probably the wax)
You must beat least 18 years old to offer on and buy this knife.
