This listing is for a set of RARE ONE OF A KIND items from the estate of former Major General Chester V. Clifton.
This is a collection of 5 original White House and military documents relating to Clifton’s 1961 promotion to the rank of major general.
Included are 3 related telegrams, one being an announcement of the President’s promotion nomination, and 2 official White House telegrams expressing congratulations to Clifton. Also included is an official Department of the Army Special Orders No. 218 announcing the promotion, as well as a congratulatory card from 19 White House employees, including Letitia Baldrige, Pamela Turnure, and Sandy Fox.
The original accompanying Certificate of Authenticity is also included.
Chester Victor Clifton Jr. (September 24, 1913 – December 23, 1991) was a major general in the United States Army and the senior military aide to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.
Clifton was riding in the fateful Dallas motorcade on November 22, 1963 when JFK was assassinated. He can be seen in the famous series of Cecil Stoughton photos of the LBJ swear-in at Dallas Love Field aboard Air Force One.
Clifton co-authored the book The Memories: J.F.K., 1961–1963 with Cecil W. Stoughton.
