Pennsylvania 8 day grandfather clock brass dial movement @ 1770 Original Rare:
Pennsylvania walnut fret top grandfather clock 8 day brass dial movement only @ 1770. This great original piece is in excellent original as found condition with a great original patina. The fantastic hand wrought brass dial measures 11" wide x 15 3/8" tall, and retains an excellent old patina. There are some scratches to the chapter ring around the numeral 8, and some of the engraved numerals have lost some of their original engraving wax. Wonderful unique spandrels - one spandrel is missing as shown in the photos. The chapter ring, seconds dial, and strike/silent ring are pewter. The four original dial feet are formed from square steel stock. Dial is original to movement with no extra holes anywhere. Great original hour and minute hands, the seconds hand is missing. The 8 day two weight driven movement is complete and intact, and ticks and strikes with gentle finger pressure on each great wheel. Movement is in good mechanical condition, and looks ready to go with oiling and adjusting, but no guarantees. Movement is unique with a detached snail for the strike. Both the calendar and strike/silent selector are fully intact with their original components and functional. No rust to the steel parts at all. Cable is old but good. Great original bell. No pulleys. Great original seatboard measures 12 3/8" wide x 5 1/2" deep x 1/2" thick. Please see my other sales this week for the original walnut fret top grandfather clock case, original brass finials, cast iron weights, pendulum, and winding key that came together with this movement.
