ORIGINAL MABEL NORMAND MICKEY MOVIE POSTER-CHAPLIN- SAXTONS RIVER VT 28" x 21":
This is a circa 1918 poster measuring 21 inches by 28 inches, advertising for Mabel Normand in Mickey.
It is an ORIGINAL World War 1 era poster from a century ago.
The film was being shown at-- I O O F Hall in Saxtons River in Vermont.
In 1917/1918---- Mickey was being advertised everywhere and everyone immediately connected Mabel Normand with that role. "Mickey mania" was in full force across the country (along with the partiotic fervor of war time)
Note the red and blue print against white---- also the words "war tax extra" (at the very bottom of the poster).
Mack Sennett bombarded the public with an ad campaign for about ONE YEAR before the film was finally released to the public. It was advertised as "... the picture you will never forget..."
Mabel Normand (and Mickey) were so connected in the public's mind that-- if you look carefully---- you will notice that Mabel isn't even mentioned on the poster!! The public already KNEW Mabel Normand was Mickey!!
However--- they DID say that the film was "Greater than Birth Of A Nation....." and "....Funnier Than Charlie Chaplin..."
Although, Mabel was a wonderful comedienne--- it's quite a claim to equate Mickey with Chaplin and Griffith!
By the time Mickey was released, Mabel Normand had left Sennett and signed with Sam Goldwyn.
The poster appears to be in good condition with some wear. It was wrapped in protective plastic and backed with cardboard... it was aquired like this almost 40 years ago.
Here is a great poster whether you collect WW1 items, Mabel Normand memorabilia or Saxtons River history.
A FABULOUS display piece from over 100 years ago!!
