This is a genuine Iron Nickel Nantan meteorite. The weight of this meteorite 294 grams (10.4 ounces). It measures 3 1/2 inches in length, 1 3/4 inches in width, and 3/4 inch in thickness at the thickest point. Nantans contain a trace amount of chlorine which causes them to oxidize more quickly than other meteorites. That's what gives them their unique and beautiful brownish-red color.
Due to this fact, we do not recommend cutting and polishing these pieces. Nantans need to be protected at least once a year by soaking them in mineral oil. Included with the meteorite is a nice color information card and certificate of authenticity. This is a great gift for meteorite collectors!
